Luke Gunter
DIRECTOR
Luke has over 10 years’ experience across nursing, emergency care, mental health, and Justice Health. After completing his Bachelor of Nursing in 2013 and being recognised as ‘New Graduate of the Year’ at Broken Hill Base Hospital, he developed strong clinical skills in emergency departments before moving into leadership roles within the prison system. Working in Justice Health highlighted the need for skilled mental health clinicians in the NDIS space, which led Luke to complete a Master of Health Management at UNSW and further specialise by working in a Mental Health Intensive Care Unit. He is committed to outcome‑focused, person‑centred support and delivering high‑quality mental health care to NDIS participants.

Kayla Gunter
SUPPORT WORKER and CO OWNER
Kayla brings over ten years of experience in early childhood education and a lifelong commitment to caring roles. As a young carer for her sister, she worked closely with social workers who supported her family with compassion and consistency, an experience that shaped her desire to pursue social work. After years of educating young children and raising three of her own, Kayla followed that passion into the disability and community sector. She has a deep understanding of the lived experiences of people with disability and the strengths they hold. Kayla is dedicated to person‑centred, empowering support that honours each individual’s voice and helps them build confidence and independence.

Kirsten Samuels
OPERATIONS MANAGER
Kristen oversees the day‑to‑day operations of Better Care, ensuring supports run smoothly for both participants and staff. Her role includes managing rosters, coordinating appointments, maintaining NDIS compliance, and working closely with participants and stakeholders to uphold high‑quality care. She is driven by a genuine commitment to making a positive difference, and she enjoys the challenge of problem‑solving and creating stability for the people she supports. Kristen’s background includes practice management, roles across NSW Health, and experience within Justice Health, where she developed strong skills supporting individuals with complex needs. Time spent living and working in London broadened her perspective and shaped her adaptable, people‑focused approach. She believes in being the reason someone feels supported today. -

Josh Ferreira
TEAM LEADER
Josh supports clients and guides staff with calm, consistent leadership. He’s experienced in disability, mental health, and behavioural support, with strengths in documentation, risk management, and trauma-informed practice. Known for clear communication and practical problem-solving, Josh creates safe, respectful environments where people feel supported. He holds a Certificate III in Individual Support and extensive NDIS training. Outside work, Josh enjoys soccer, surfing, camping, country music, and time with family.“Consistency builds trust, and trust changes everything.”

James Soldas
MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT WORKER
James is a passionate support worker who helps clients live the life they choose by motivating them to achieve their goals and build independence. With qualifications in Individual Support, Disability, Mental Health, and Advanced Mental Health, he brings strong knowledge and excellent de‑escalation skills. Growing up with ADHD shaped his empathy and commitment to supporting people who face similar challenges. He is known for being patient, non‑judgmental, and encouraging. Outside of work, he loves cars and soccer, and once captained the Australian futsal team at seventeen.

Luke Cohen
MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT WORKER
Luke brings over fifteen years in youth work, eight years in disability, and six years in management. He supports clients with emotional first aid, community access, appointments, medication, routines, and safe home environments. He values strong communication and consistency across the team. Motivated by compassion and an understanding of how toxic stress shapes behaviour, Luke approaches clients with patience and zero judgment. His background includes community development, firefighting, and lifeguarding, giving him resilience and adaptability. Outside of work, he enjoys true crime, the gym, the beach, and plenty of coffee.

Brian Simcox
MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT WORKER
Brian works from a strengths‑based approach, helping clients recognise their abilities and build confidence through the skills they already have. He supports community access, daily routines, and maintaining clean, comfortable home environments that support mental health. Motivated by helping people overcome challenges and build stable, fulfilling lives, he brings Mental Health First Aid training and strong problem‑solving skills from his background in marketing and freelancing. Known for his approachable nature and love of a good joke, Brian creates supportive, positive connections with clients.

James Blandford
MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT WORKER
James provides client‑centred support that promotes emotional regulation, community access, medication safety, and daily skill development. With a calm, trauma‑informed approach shaped by experience in mental health and disability, he supports participants to build confidence, independence, and long‑term self‑efficacy. He is studying Nutrition and Dietetics and completing a Diploma in Mental Health. Known for his clear documentation, strong boundaries, and steady presence, James values teamwork and consistent communication. He is motivated by ensuring everyone has equal opportunity and feels heard and respected. Outside of work, he enjoys making music.

Charlotte Bradley
SUPPORT WORKER
Charlotte provides person-centred support that helps clients feel confident, organised, and connected. Her role includes community access, appointments, household tasks, meal planning, and building healthy routines. She brings calm consistency, strong boundaries, and a genuine desire to help people feel supported in ways that matter. Charlotte holds a Certificate III in Community Services, Mental Health First Aid, First Aid, and a Working With Children Check. Her experience at Better Care has strengthened her skills in communication, routine building, and creating safe, structured environments. Outside of work, she enjoys arts and crafts, exercise, and cooking.

Maca O'Malley
SUPPORT WORKER
Macauley provides person‑centred support that promotes independence, wellbeing, and meaningful daily routines. He assists with personal care, medication, meals, household tasks, and community access, while building calm, trusting relationships. With training in Individual Support, First Aid, Manual Handling, Medication Assistance, and NDIS compliance, he delivers safe, consistent care. His trade background strengthened his reliability and problem‑solving skills, which he now applies in a people‑focused environment. Known for staying calm under pressure and being easy to talk to, he values helping clients feel confident and supported. He enjoys fishing, boating, and hands‑on projects.
